New chapter in the history of navigation systems

2009-04-07

Data necessary for mapping lorry routes, police information on the most dangerous road zones in Poland, a system for gathering data on traffic intensity, the latest maps of Polish roads with millions of additional data entries. AutoMapa 5.5 opens a new chapter in the history of navigation systems with easier operation and more data than ever before!

AutoMapa 5.5 contains the latest maps of Poland with a comprehensive road network covering the entire country. It is also the only database of address points assigned to individual buildings. The latest version contains 272 new locations with comprehensive address points. AutoMapa v. 5.5 features more than 1970 locations covered by this numbering system.

Such an extensive database requires an effective data search mechanism, which is why the new AutoMapa introduced a new data selection system based on the option of disabling keyboard keys depending on the characters which have already been input and which can be input. Users searching for their points of destination based on postal codes will be happy to learn that their search results can now be grouped by cities and streets.

The mileage function has been expanded in the latest version of AutoMapa. Mileage information is now displayed in the navigation panel, and CB radio users can now directly find out and pass on detailed information on traffic obstacles along the route.

AutoMapa 5.5 features nearly 400,000 Points of Interest grouped in nearly 1000 categories. Every day, active AutoMapa users who are members of the Miplo.pl community add nearly 400 new, precisely described POIs. Thanks to their support, drivers travelling across Poland will now easily find not only ATMs, pharmacies, clubs and petrol stations, but also shopping centres, retail outlets, currency exchange outlets, banks and fitness clubs. AutoMapa will alert the driver about potholes, speed bumps, Internet hotspots, favourite cafes and restaurants.

The most detailed maps for lorry drivers

For the first time in history, lorry drivers travelling through Poland with GPS navigation can map their journey in view of special traffic restrictions applicable to large-sized vehicles. The data for mapping lorry routes covers more than 23,000 cargo weight limit signs, more than 1,200 overpass height signs and more than 2,200 overpasses, whose height was measured with a ladar for the needs of non-standard transports. AutoMapa 5.5 also specifies the allowable axle load on all national and provincial roads in accordance with a regulation of the Minister of Transport. The project involving the gathering of lorry traffic data went on for many months. Data was accumulated by seven measuring teams, who travelled a total of 150,000 km across Poland. They took over 8.2 million photographs with a combined size of nearly 700 GB and compiled more than 50,000 data entries concerning road categories and changes from the previous versions. Data was verified by two control teams. In the last six months of the project, data was processed, verified and entered in the system by several project teams.

AutoMapa Traffic

The latest version of AutoMapa features the first module of AutoMapa Traffic, a revolutionary system for bypassing traffic jams. The system will enable drivers to avoid traffic jams and plan their journey in view of the current traffic situation. An implemented functionality of the AutoMapa Traffic system supports the anonymous collection of traffic data. Data collected from users constitutes a vital part of the acquired information, and it is regularly analysed and compared with information from other sources to give a detailed account of the traffic situation at every time of day and night.

"We have been working on this solution for quite some time now, and it will feature one of the most advanced and comprehensive traffic information systems. We have decided to launch an innovative system based on the latest technological advancements that will enable AutoMapa users to avoid traffic jams," says Jędrzej Szynkarczuk, AutoMapa's Marketing Director.

500 most dangerous road zones in Poland

A journey with AutoMapa is a safe journey, which is why AutoMapa, Krzysztof Hołowczyc's "Safe Driver" Foundation and the Police Headquarters carried out the "500 most dangerous road zones in Poland" project, which provided all AutoMapa users with access to data on the most accident-prone roads in the country. For the first time in Poland, AutoMapa users will have access to information on dangerous road sections that have a long history of accidents. The "500 most dangerous road zones in Poland" project is a spin-off of a highly successful campaign for improved road safety in Warmia and Mazury, carried out by AutoMapa and the police of the Warmia and Mazury region last year. Data collected by the local police was incorporated in AutoMapa software last summer. Following a successful pilot program, initiated in joint effort with Krzysztof Hołowczyc's "Safe Driver" Foundation, the campaign's social partner, the project has been successfully launched throughout Poland for the benefit of AutoMapa users.

AutoMapa is the most frequently updated navigation system in Poland, and its users can be sure to reach their destination quickly and safely with AutoMapa on board. A full list of changes in version 5.5 is available at http://www.automapa.pl/.
