2008-03-05
2003 January - Market debut of AutoMapa, the first Polish GPS navigation system. Version 1.0 offers a city plan of Warsaw and a free Basic Map of Poland. Soon, another city map is added, this time of Poznań.
March - AutoMapa is available in retail outlets as the first Polish GPS navigation system
June - The first digital map of Poland (AutoMapa 50k) is launched on the market.
July - AutoMapa is updated to provide automatic switching from the Poland map 50K to city plans.
October - AutoMapa is chosen as the product of the year for 2003 during 9th International Geoinformatics Fair 2003 in Warsaw.
- Market debut of the newest AutoMapa version 2.3. It contains the most important sections of main roads, including bypasses at Białobrzegi and Ostrów Mazowiecka, as well as the first version of the POI (Point of Interest) database. At the same time, new versions of Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław and Poznań digital city plans are made available.
2004 January - AutoMapa is available for sale at the outlets of Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa ERA GSM
February - Market debut of AutoMapa 3.0, which introduces several useful features, such as, e.g. new voice messages (including foreign-language messages), 10-times as fast automatic route correction procedure or wide range of supported equipment (PocketPC, Tablet or PC computer). A Tricity plan is introduced, containing 2000 kilometers of roads with full descriptions of traffic restrictions and almost 50,000 addresses of buildings
- A set of maps called Poland XL is introduced, composed of a map of Poland in the 50k version and city plans of Warsaw, Kraków, Poznań, Wrocław and Tricity.
May - AutoMapa is further extended to include maps of Upper Silesian Industrial Region (GOP) and Łódź, which are the most accurate and precise maps of those areas that have ever been published. AutoMapa GOP represents, e.g. over 200,000 buildings drawn on the basis of air photo evidence and provided with addresses, as well as 3000 POIs. AutoMapa GOP covered the area of over 3000 square km and includes detailed plans of the following localities: Będzin, Bytom, Chorzów, Czeladź, Dąbrowa Górnicza, Gliwice, Jaworzno, Katowice, Mysłowice, Piekary Śląskie, Ruda Śląska, Siemianowice Śląskie, Sosnowiec, Świętochłowice, Tychy, and Zabrze. AutoMapa Łódź covers 53,000 with addresses, and over 800 POIs.
July - AutoMapa updated to include the maps of Bydgoszcz, Lublin and Szczecin. The maps contain building outlines, addresses and a rich database of POIs.
October - AutoMapa extended to the areas of Białystok, Kielce, Olsztyn, Rzeszów and Zakopane, with over 55,000 addresses and almost 2,000 km of roads in total.
2005 February - AutoMapa contains 657,000 addresses in localities inhabited by 30% of Poles. Apart from 38 cities with detailed addresses, AutoMapa XL also contains the names of streets in 405 towns and enabled the driver to specify a particular address or street name in 443 localities inhabited by 55% of Poles. The AutoMapa navigation network covers 451,000 km of roads divided into 9 categories, as well as 42,300 localities, 24,500 POIs, 137,000 km of rivers, 20,000 lakes, 94,500 km2 of forests, and 29,900 km of railways.
- Market debut of AutoMapa 3.7, updated to include detailed city pans of Bielsko-Biała, Częstochowa, Gorzów Wlkp., Opole, Płock, and Radom. The above-mentioned plans contain in total almost 80,000 addresses assigned to individual buildings, almost 2,000 POIs and over 3,000 km of roads.
March - Market debut of AutoMapa 3.8, which introduces voice messages warning of the proximity to photo radars, radars, POI chosen by the driver or any other point chosen by the user. The user can specify not only the POI category, but also the distance and the angle of view for the area where POI alarm is signalized.
May - Establishment of POI.Mobilne.net webportal, which utilizes the option of adding your own items to the database of POIs in AutoMapa. Such database includes POIs related to entertainment and recreation (e.g. ice rinks, national parks), catalogues of POIs (e.g. retail outlets, garages) and information on road traffic (e.g. speed bumps, traffic congestion). The website was created by AutoMapa users and for AutoMapa users. Option of automatic synchronization with POI.Mobilne.net is introduced.
July - AutoMapa covers 600 localities, as well as the complete network of roads, street names, 667,000 addresses, 918,000 buildings, 451,000 km of roads divided into 9 categories, 42,300 localities, 28,000 POIs, 137,000 km of rivers, 20,000 lakes, 94,5000 km2 of forests, 29,900 km of railways. Added: detailed plans of Nowy Sącz and Zielona Góra.
December - Market debut of AutoMapa 3.9, which covers almost half a million km of roads, 930 city or town plans with street names, 750,000 addresses, over 46,000 localities and more than a million building outlines. Additionally, AutoMapa now automatically supports rectangular or square display used in the newest PocketPC models and is ready for work on devices running the new version of Windows Mobile 2005.
2006 April - Number of towns and cities in AutoMapa exceeded 52,000. Full navigation information covers over a thousand localities (including almost all the Polish towns: 810 out of 889). Street names missing from the maps of 42 towns only. Poland 50k map extended to include over 100,000 new addresses, increasing the total number of addresses on Poland XL map to over 850,000. The number of POIs increased to 56,000, i.e. by over 20,000.
May - AutoMapa and Plus GSM cooperate on launch of iPlus pilot, a comprehensive navigation set integrated with a PDA device.
September - AutoMapa includes over 1,100 navigation plans of localities, including detailed plans of 865 towns of the total number of 889 Polish towns. To reach 100%, only 24 towns still remain to be added. The number of building outlines reached 1.5 million, while that of addresses 1,1 million. Moreover, maps feature corrections in the course of roads, which have been numbered in accordance with new ordinances, as well as numerous corrections in the locality and railway layers and a major correction of the street network layout in over 200 towns and cities.
- A well-known rally driver, Krzysztof Hołowczyc, becomes the voice of AutoMapa.
December - AutoMapa covers over 1.6 million buildings and 1.2 million accurate addresses. Navigation plans cover 1,250 localities, including 890, i.e. all the Polish towns. The amount of data introduced to AutoMapa during the last two years have doubled. The number of points of interest (POI) increased to 60,406, while another 53,000 POIs can be added from poi.mobilne.net website, which has been created by AutoMapa users.
2007 January - Targeo implementation (monitoring system based on the map engine of AutoMapa) was awarded the title of "Innovation of the Year 2006," presented by the American Chamber of Commerce in Poland. Apart from Targeo, the list of laureates included such renowned organization as Pratt & Whitney, manufacturer of airplane engines (including engines for F-16) and US Pharmacia, the world's leading producer of pharmaceuticals, which were awarded the titles of, respectively, Project and Entrepreneur of the Year.
February - Launch of the first address search engine, available at www.Targeo.pl. This unique website utilizes digital maps from AutoMapa and enables users to search for detailed addresses and their accurate location as well as the building outline.
May - Krzysztof Hołowczyc officially launches a new version of the software - AutoMapa 4, which contains, for example, 1.6 million accurate addresses and 3D navigation mode that mimics natural driver's perspective.
June - AutoMapa is proclaimed the winner of a navigation systems test conducted by the Komputer Świat monthly and awarded the sign of "Komputer Świat QUALITY winner."
September - Market launch of AutoMapa 4.1, which introduces improved route display algorithms (esp. in respect of optimal route), several improvements to navigation messages, greater precision of GPS coordinates and increased accuracy of building outlines, as well as names of water reservoirs, etc. AutoMapa Europe now includes the territories of Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Moldova, Romania, Serbia, and Slovenia.
November - Launch of Miplo.pl, the newest incarnation of the popular website poi.mobilne.net. Miplo.pl offers the most up-to-date web localizator with a database containing 100,000 POI entries. With MiploSync software, AutoMapa users can download and update POI information.
December - Market debut of AutoMapa 4.5, which introduces 3D visualizations of buildings located in 34 cities. The new version also includes the most up-to-date address database available in Poland, as well as over 200,000 points of interest (POI) and more than 100,000 localities.
2008 February - AutoMapa reaches and exceeds the number of 200,000 users and, for the fifth year in a row, remains the most popular navigation system available in Poland.
